    Job Title: Coordinator (Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or Counselling) 
    Work Site: Robert & Lily Lee Family CHC - Peer Based Program 
    Status: Temporary Full Time till September 2019 
    Start Date: As Soon As Possible 
    Salary: $26.75 - $28.70 per hour
    Hours: 0900-1700 Monday to Friday with Sat/Sun/Stats off

    The Coordinator oversees the Peer Based Program (PBP), and works directly with VCH Harm Reduction Services, the Harm Reduction Coordinator, and SMART Program Group Coordinator and Facilitator.


    The candidate should:

    • Have knowledge/experience in working with people with lived experience of using drugs and sex work.
    • Understanding of the effects of stigma as it pertains to people who use drugs or engage in sex work both societally and institutionally.
    • Ability to determine necessary individual supports and development opportunities and strategize around delivery for peers who are participating in the program.
    • Have an understanding of Trauma Informed Practice and Cultural Safety as it pertains to peer programming and engagement.
    • Ability and experience in advocating for peers ensuring external engagement opportunities provide appropriate compensation and supports for people with lived experience, and follow current accepted models of best practice.




    Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Coordinator is responsible to develop and coordinate designated programs and workshops to promote harm reduction and health promotion related to sexual health and / or safer drug use. The Coordinator develops program related information for the designated client population applicable to the program. Coordinates workshops, recruits, orients and trains new volunteers/peers, coordinates the deployment of volunteers/peers and provides work direction to volunteers/peers. Evaluates volunteers/peers’ performance and addresses concerns. Acts as a resource for staff, ensures the goals of the program are achieved and the evaluation process is established. Administers workshop budget and provides communications that support program promotion. Liaises with health care providers, colleagues, community mental health services, and mainstream or youth community organizations/agencies. Maintains intranet web pages.


    Education & Experience
    Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with a counseling emphasis, Counselling or a related discipline, three (3) year’s of recent, related experience working with the designated program client population, working with volunteers/peers in community service work and providing health promotion and harm reduction education in the areas of sexual health and / or drug use or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid BC Driver’s License.

    Knowledge & Abilities
    Knowledge of HIV, hepatitis C and STIs and their impact on the community
    Knowledge of issues related to sexual health promotion and sexual wellness
    Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices
    Knowledge of peer-driven interventions
    Demonstrated facilitation, leadership, public speaking and conflict resolution skills
    Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
    Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
    Ability to plan, organize and prioritize
    Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
    Ability to provide work direction
    Ability to analyze and resolve problems
    Knowledge of and proficiency in relevant software, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software application and Powerpoint.
    Ability to be sensitive, tactful and diplomatic with clients and the public.
    Ability to prepare presentation, promotional material and business correspondence.
    Ability to prepare and update web pages.
    Ability to work under the pressure of interruptions and adapt to changes.
    Ability to compile and present information.
    Ability to do mathematical calculations and monitor budgets.
