Job Summary

Come work as a Health Care Support Worker and earn your Care Aide registration with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

 

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking to hire Health Care Support Workers via the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Upon completing the training opportunity, successful candidates will be eligible to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry. Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as regular Community Health Workers for 12 months subsequent to graduating.

 

Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.

 

As an applicant to this job posting, you will be considered for seats at Home Support sites across VCH for various cohorts starting between 2023 and 2024. Applicants will be assigned schools based on seat availability. 

 

As a Health Care Support Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse or another regulated healthcare professional.
  • Perform a variety of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare supports to clients, residents, families, and/or visitors in long term care, assisted living and home settings in accordance with the established care plan and safety requirements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 10, including successful completion of English 10 or equivalency. Transcripts showing 3 years consecutive, or 7 years non-consecutive study within a country with English language systems / institutions (where English is a primary, official language and the language used for education) – OR – Standardized English language proficiency test from an authorized assessment centre.
  • Valid Class V BC Driver’s License (for NorthShore, Sea to Sky, Sechelt, Powell River, and Bella Bella only).

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Closing Statement

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
