The community of Bella Bella is seeking Locum Family Physicians with Emergency experience to join their healthcare team, providing comprehensive services to its residents. Specific dates will be provided upon inquiry.

 

Enjoy the efficiency of integrated clinic, hospital, and pharmacy services within a single facility. Our team delivers routine clinic care, emergency services, and inpatient care to a predominantly Heiltsuk Nation community of approximately 2,000 individuals. Primary healthcare is provided through Vancouver Coastal Health’s ƛ̓uxválásu̓ilas Heiltsuk Hospital (kwil-valas-iwaylas) and the Bella Bella Medical Clinic. The hospital features acute, residential, and emergency care, complemented by diagnostic imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, and visiting ultrasound services.

 

The facility is staffed by seven physicians, with three to four physicians on duty daily, and includes five patient/doctor exam rooms. ƛ̓uxválásu̓ilas Heiltsuk Hospital offers five acute care beds, seven continuing care beds, and a 24/7 emergency department with four beds. Our ER is open 24/7. Call schedule is 1-in-3 or 1-in-4 split shifts (11/13-hour shifts during the week, 24-hour shifts on weekends/on holidays, no patients booked after a night on call).

 

Bella Bella is a picturesque island community located off the central coast of British Columbia, 480 kilometers northwest of Vancouver. Its stunning natural surroundings include channels, inlets, and old-growth forests. The oceanfront hospital serves as a central hub for community life. Recreational opportunities are abundant for outdoor enthusiasts. Activities such as kayaking among the nearby islands, fishing, and eco-tours from Shearwater resort or local providers are readily available. The hospital’s vantage point offers potential sightings of humpback whales, orcas, and sea lions.

 

Applicants will require ACLS, ATLS and PALS certification to work in Emergency. If any of the certifications have expired, the CARE certification can replace the expired certifications.

Other benefits:

 

MOCAP on call is estimated in the above total - average 1:3 or 1:4 call shifts. REEF ER incentive is in addition to the above noted amounts at $400 per 24/hr shift or $200 per 12/hr shift. After Hours Premium (AHP) is in addition to the above and AHP qualifies for FPE incentive. Housing is provided for permanent/locum physician. The site qualifies for Locums of BC assistance for additional time off if locum is located to replace your week(s) on site.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Trauma life Support (ATLS)
  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License – Full
  • Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP)
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • Emergency Experience
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PAL)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • If any of the certifications have expired, CARE certification can replace the expired certification.
