Come work as a Palliative Care Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

 

Join a group of Palliative Care Specialists who work in interdisciplinary, community based teams to provide palliative care across a spectrum of care including early integration of palliative care for both oncologic and non-oncologic diseases in ambulatory settings and home settings, to end of life care in home and hospices.  The Vancouver Community Palliative Care Program is located across multiple settings including clinic, community health centers and hospice and provides services to a diverse patient population. It is both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary and provides consultative palliative care across a continuum of care and settings.

 

As a Palliative Care Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

  • Be part of the Department of Family & Community Practice with a talented, dedicated and collegial group who work together to provide excellent patient care.
  • Work in at least two of the practice settings and be flexible to work in other settings of care if clinical situations arise.
  • Provide on call services in a 1 in 6 to 1 in 9 rotation dependent on the care setting.

Qualifications

 

Education & Experience

  • A Medical Degree, current license or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • In addition, candidates should meet least one of the following four criteria:
  • Recognized with a Certificate of Added Competency in Palliative Care by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP-PC);
  • Completed “Year of Added Competency” training in Palliative Care at an accredited training site;
  • Certified as a Palliative Medicine Specialist by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC);
  • Holder of Palliative Medicine credentials earned in another jurisdiction that are acceptable to both the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and the governing body of the Health Authority and its Affiliates.
  • Candidates must also obtain active Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) coverage (or equivalent coverage that must be disclosed).
  • The successful candidate will also be required to apply to & successfully join the Medical Staff of VCH if not already a member.

  • Passion for patient welfare, and an ability to deliver high-quality care in the context of complex health care systems.
  • Strong commitment to education, including the ability to inspire lifelong learning in students, residents, nurses and colleagues.
  • Commitment to knowing best practices and communicating them effectively to those around you.
  • A strong communicator: Understanding the importance of continuous and effective communication, you are highly skilled at listening, engaging and consulting with diverse stakeholders including patients, internal and external healthcare professionals and caseworker teams.
  • In addition, it is expected that you will assume additional roles from clinical within the team. Theses may include the following:
    • Researcher: You have a commitment and a proven track record as a researcher. You have successfully applied for grants and brought forward articles for publication.
    • Quality Improvement/Innovator: You will be an innovator who brings creativity, critical and strategic thinking along with excellent communication skills.
    • Physician Wellness and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: You are an advocate, educator and influencer bringing an EDI and wellness lens to patient and provider experiences.
