Job Description

Job Title: Hearing Instrument Practitioner
Work Site:Powell River Health Unit
Status: Regular Part Time  (0.77 FTE)
Start Date: March 23, 2018
Salary: $27.37 - $34.11 per hour
Hours: 0830-1630 (Week 1: Wed, Thrus Fri. Week 2: Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri)

Under the supervision of the Audiologist or Clinical Supervisor, and in accordance with established policies, guidelines and procedures for Vancouver Coastal Health, conducts hearing screening, assists with the provision of clinical audiology and vision services and supports the use of hearing equipment. In addition, works within the scope of practice of a Hearing Instrument Provider, as defined by the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC, and provides independent clinical audiology and hearing equipment services to clients 16 years of age and older.


Education & Experience

  • Completion of an approved diploma Hearing Instrument Program.
  • License to practice as a Hearing Instrument Provider by the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC.
  • One year recent, related experience working with infants, children, adults and clients with developmental disabilities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of audiology.
  • Knowledge of community development and health promotion principles and practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload.
  • Ability to follow clinical protocols.
  • Ability to practice and deliver client and family centered care.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to work in preschools, schools and community health care settings. 
  • Ability to operate related equipment such as computerized software technology within a Windows operating environment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
