Status:

Full-Time

Start Date:

Clinical Service Contract

Come work as an Emergency Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

The Squamish General Hospital Emergency Department (SGH ED) is seeking dedicated physicians to join our team. These positions include a mix of weekend, daytime, and night shifts, with opportunities for additional shifts. Compensation is provided through a group service contract. These positions may also be eligible for Rural Program funding, adjudicated on a casebycase basis by the Ministry of Health.

Squamish General Hospital serves a population of approximately 24,000 and operates a 13bed emergency department. The emergency physician also provides crosscoverage for the acute medical inpatient unit and an adjoining longterm care facility for urgent issues. The ED receives roughly 20,000 visits per year. The current schedule includes four singlecoverage physician shifts per day. Lab, CT Scanning, xray, and ultrasound are available on site. Specialist consultation is available at Lions Gate Hospital, approximately a 45minute EHS transfer from Squamish. Squamish General Hospital is a level 5 rural trauma centre, with no general surgery or internal medicine on site. Anesthesia backup is available 24 hours a day.

The ideal applicants are strong communicators who work effectively within a small team of nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals. We are looking for individuals passionate about delivering highquality emergency care in a rural setting and committed to ongoing skill development. Squamish is a rapidly growing community with evolving healthcare needs; a commitment to the broader local medical community is highly valued. Living locally is an asset to support urgent callouts.

Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and hold a CCFP. Candidates should possess experience in Emergency Medicine in a similar setting or have completed additional training in Emergency Medicine, such as the CCFP-EM program, FRCPC Emergency Medicine, or have obtained EM certification through successful completion of the CCFP-EM examination. Equivalent enhanced skills programs, such as the Nanaimo Emergency Education Program, will also be considered. Interested candidates are invited to submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae (CV).

Preference will be given to candidates residing in the Squamish area and those with more than five years of experience in rural emergency medicine.
