Full-time training at BCIT & practicum locations: September 18, 2023 - December 11, 2023
Salary: $36.23 - $47.58 per hour




0615-1600 / 0630-1615 / 0700-1645 / 0830-1815 / 0930-1915 / 1030-2015 / 1130-1930 / 1130-2115 / 1500-2445 and on call

Days off: Rotating

Come work as a Registered Nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit at Richmond Hospital!

As an RN in the PACU, you will:

  • Provide nursing care to high risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery.
  • Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
  • Consult, confer, and collaborate with other health care givers.
  • Demonstrate expertise and leadership in nursing practice.
  • Maintain and advance your own clinical competence.
  • Participate on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Eligibility for the post-basic training education is restricted to applicants with recent acute surgical experience. Preferences will be given to applicants with high-acuity training.

Applicants must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.


BCIT Critial Care Nursing Specialty Program:
Online Theory (if required): March 27, 2023 - September 10, 2023

BCIT Workshop Days: Apr. 20, Jun. 21, Jul. 20 & Aug. 17, 2023
Full-time training at BCIT & practicum locations: September 18, 2023 - December 11, 2023
*course dates will be modified based on previous courses completed. VCH only funds for required courses.


The post-basic training education program requires full-time attendance.  Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program. 


Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.

This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills in the specialty area that VCH has supported and funded candidates to complete. In the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.


The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
