Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a dedicated and collegial Urologist with subspecialty expertise in urologic oncology (kidney cancer focus) to join the University of British Columbia Department of Urologic Sciences at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), one of Canada’s leading academic hospitals. VGH combines adult community urology practice with the activities of a tertiary/quaternary referral centre. VGH is home to world-class clinical programs, advanced robotics, surgical innovation, basic science/translational research, and multidisciplinary teams.

 

Job Summary

As a Staff Urologist at VGH, you will:

  • Provide specialized urologic care with a focus on testicular and kidney cancers, including complex oncologic and retroperitoneal surgery.
  • Work within a high-volume tertiary referral practice and multidisciplinary cancer teams.
  • Engage in teaching and mentoring through UBC’s Faculty of Medicine.
  • Lead and develop an independent, externally competitive clinical and translational research program in testicular and kidney cancer, aligned with the associated UBC academic appointment.
  • Participate in quality improvement and academic activities.

 

This position is intended for a clinician–scientist committed to building a sustained, high-impact research program alongside a busy academic surgical practice.

 

Remuneration is feeforservice in accordance with provincial billing structures.

 

Additional Requirements

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers in publicly funded facilities must report immunization history or immunity status for specified communicable diseases as part of onboarding.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, & Experience:

  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) - Mandatory

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in British Columbia.
  • Completion of a fellowship in urologic oncology with demonstrated expertise in kidney and testicular cancers is required.
  • Advanced research training (minimum ~2 years) in kidney cancer—such as genomics, metabolomics, or precision oncology—is required.
  • Proven track record, or strong evidence of potential, for peer-reviewed funding, publication, and translational research impact.
  • Candidates trained internationally will be considered, subject to licensure requirements;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, team-based academic environment.
