Reporting to the Vice-President, Richmond Community, the Regional Director, Spiritual Health provides strategic and operational leadership for Spiritual Health services across Vancouver Coastal Health's Acute and Community settings. The role advances an integrated, equitable and person-centred approach to spiritual health that supports patients, families, staff and physicians through VCH's bio-psycho-social-spiritual model of care.

This is a unique executive leadership opportunity to influence holistic, compassionate and culturally responsive care across one of Canada's largest integrated health systems. Working in alignment with VCH's Mission, Vision, Values and strategic priorities, the Regional Director strengthens the integration of Spiritual Health within clinical care, professional practice, education, research and organizational culture.

The Regional Director leads a regional, multi-site team of Spiritual Health Practitioners, educators, residents, interns and adjunct spiritual care providers, translating strategic priorities into sustainable services, professional practice standards and operational approaches that strengthen consistency, workforce sustainability and patient, family and staff experience across the organization.

Working collaboratively with executive leadership, Operations, Professional Practice, Indigenous Health, physicians, academic institutions and community partners, the Regional Director advances integrated models of care, provides strategic consultation on complex spiritual, ethical and multi-faith matters, and serves as a trusted advisor to the President & CEO on the human, spiritual and cultural dimensions of healthcare delivery, organizational culture and staff well-being.

Building on a respected foundation, the Regional Director will steward and thoughtfully evolve the Spiritual Health portfolio by strengthening organizational alignment, professional practice, consistency across Communities of Care, evidence-informed service planning and culturally responsive care. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Spiritual Health Integration

• Leads the strategic direction and continuous evolution of Spiritual Health services across VCH, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model of care.
• Develops regional strategies, service delivery models and professional practice standards that strengthen consistency, sustainability and equitable access across Communities of Care.
• Advances the integration of Spiritual Health within patient care, staff well-being, physician support, organizational culture and executive decision-making.
• Balances stewardship of a respected program with thoughtful innovation, evidence-informed practice and service transformation.
• Establishes meaningful performance measures, evaluation frameworks and service outcomes to demonstrate the value, impact and sustainability of Spiritual Health services across VCH.

Partnerships, Collaboration & Organizational Influence

• Builds collaborative relationships with executive leadership, Operations, Professional Practice, Indigenous Health, physicians, educators and community partners to advance integrated models of care.
• Provides strategic consultation on complex spiritual, ethical and multi-faith matters, supporting organizational planning, policy development and decision-making.
• Strengthens partnerships with Indigenous communities, faith leaders, academic institutions—including the Vancouver School of Theology—and professional organizations to advance patient care, education and research.
• Represents VCH provincially and nationally in initiatives related to Spiritual Health, Clinical Pastoral Education, multi-faith services and healthcare transformation.

Professional Practice, Education & Accreditation

• Provides regional leadership for Spiritual Health professional practice, advancing consistent standards, evidence-informed practice and integrated models of care across VCH.
• Oversees Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), accreditation activities and educational programs that support excellence in learning and professional development.
• Strengthens collaboration across Professional Practice and interdisciplinary teams while supporting mentorship, workforce sustainability and succession planning.
• Leads the development and evaluation of policies, standards and initiatives that strengthen Spiritual Health services across VCH. 

Leadership, Operations & Resource Stewardship

• Provides strategic and operational leadership to a regional, multi-site Spiritual Health team while fostering collaboration, accountability and service excellence.
• Fosters a psychologically safe, inclusive and values-driven culture through coaching, mentorship, performance development and leadership growth.
• Leads workforce planning, recruitment and succession strategies that build organizational capacity.
• Oversees budgets, resource allocation and operational planning to ensure equitable, sustainable service delivery.
• Promotes continuous improvement, operational consistency and compliance with organizational policies, legislation and workplace safety standards. 

Program Development, Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Leads the planning, implementation and evaluation of regional Spiritual Health programs and strategic initiatives.
• Uses organizational data, service utilization trends, stakeholder feedback and emerging evidence to inform strategic planning, resource allocation and continuous improvement.
• Develops meaningful performance measures that demonstrate service quality, organizational impact and opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Ensures Spiritual Health services continue to evolve while preserving the relationships, values and strengths that define the portfolio.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree in theological, spiritual or related studies.
• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience within a complex healthcare environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Certification with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) as a Teaching Supervisor.
• Maintains an active, ongoing and accountable relationship with a denomination or spiritual group.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-site programs within a large healthcare organization while balancing strategic priorities with operational excellence.
• Strong systems-thinking skills with the ability to integrate Spiritual Health, organizational culture and patient-centred care across complex healthcare environments.
• Proven ability to lead organizational change, develop sustainable programs and translate strategy into measurable outcomes.
• Strong business and financial acumen, including strategic planning, performance measurement and responsible stewardship of resources.

Spiritual Health & Professional Practice Expertise

• Deep understanding of Spiritual Health practice, interfaith care and the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model of care.
• Experience advancing professional practice, education, accreditation and workforce development within healthcare.
• Ability to strengthen consistency, professional standards and equitable service delivery across multiple sites and Communities of Care.
• Knowledge of emerging trends influencing Spiritual Health and healthcare delivery. 

Relationship Building & Organizational Influence

• Demonstrated compassionate, emotionally intelligent leadership with exceptional relationship-building, communication and influence skills.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, Operations, Professional Practice, Indigenous Health, physicians, academic institutions and community partners.

Work Location

• This role requires a visible leadership presence across Vancouver Coastal Health's Acute and Community sites, balanced with limited flexibility for remote work where operationally appropriate.
