Job Summary

Come work as a Director, Clinical Planning and Capital Projects, Hospital Redevelopment Project with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Director, Clinical Planning and Capital Projects, Hospital Redevelopment Project to join the team.

The Richmond Redevelopment Capital Projects Team is responsible for advancing major redevelopment initiatives that address the evolving and high-priority health care needs of the Richmond community. This includes development of a new acute care tower and significant renovations to existing facilities to support integrated, efficient, and patient-centred care delivery aligned with current healthcare standards, leading practices, and VCH strategic priorities.

Reporting to the Chief Clinical Planner (CPP), the Director, Clinical Planning and Capital Projects provides strategic and operational leadership and is accountable for the clinical program planning, development, implementation, transition, and operational readiness of programs and services within the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project. The Director plays a critical leadership role in translating clinical and operational visions into functional facility design and ensuring redevelopment planning supports safe, effective, and future-focused healthcare delivery aligned with VCH’s overall care objectives.

The Director acts as a key liaison and advocate for clinical operations leadership, physicians, and professional practice teams in the development of functional clinical and operational space. Working closely with clinical, operational, physician, facilities, project delivery, and redevelopment partners, the Director ensures clinical and operational requirements are clearly defined, integrated into facility planning, and effectively implemented across all phases of the project — from detailed planning and design through construction, activation, transition, and opening.

The Director leads operational planning for clinical services, workflows, patient/client journeys, and models of care by partnering with clinical and operational leaders to align service delivery requirements with redevelopment design and implementation strategies. The role ensures models of care and operational workflows are clinically appropriate, operationally feasible, appropriately resourced, and aligned with future service delivery requirements, including planning for emerging and future clinical services. The role promotes best practices, innovation, operational efficiencies, interprofessional collaboration, and effective patient flow while supporting long-term service integration and optimal patient and staff experience.

As a senior leader within the Clinical Planning Team, the Director provides leadership in partner engagement, change management, operational readiness, risk mitigation, and clinical transformation initiatives associated with the redevelopment. The role develops and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, senior leadership, clinical and operational teams, user groups, external consultants, contractors, government representatives, and community partners to support successful project delivery and organizational readiness, including coordination with project management, facilities, equipment planning/procurement, and information technology teams.

Key areas of leadership include:

  • Integration of future models of care into redevelopment design and implementation;
  • Operational readiness, transition, and organizational change leadership; and
  • Complex partner engagement and cross-functional collaboration to support successful project delivery and activation.

This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.
