The psychiatrist will work as part of a strong cohesive outpatient team located within the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre providing initial psychiatric assessments, consultations, medication review, and referral to group psychotherapy & time limited individual psychotherapy. Excellence in clinical care will be offered based on the best available evidence with treatment tailored to each person’s individual needs.

 

As a Psychiatrist with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

The successful candidate with play a crucial role in delivering an evidence-based treatment for adults with moderate complexity and symptom severity Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This position is a 0.1 FTE, dedicating approximately 3 hours per week to co-facilitating a weekly in-person OCD Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Exposure and Response Prevention group and associated clinical consultation.

You'll be an integral part of our collaborative, interdisciplinary team, reporting to the Head, Department of Psychiatry, Vancouver Acute, through the Vancouver Community Adult & Child MHSU Medical Director. This role offers the chance to directly impact the lives of patients with OCD and contribute to their well-being within a supportive medical environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-facilitate a weekly 90 minute in-person CBT ERP group for OCD, ensuring a structured, engaging, and safe environment.
  • Provide medical oversight and clinical leadership within the group as appropriate for a psychiatrist.
  • Support patient in learning, practicing, and generalizing CBT skills.
  • Work collaboratively with the broader MHSU-OS team.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of group sessions and client progress.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, clinical supervision, and case consultations as required.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of the OCD group therapy program within VGH MHSU-OS.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, & Experience:

  • A Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) – Eligible
  • Specialist qualifications in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) or equivalent
  • Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the UBC Faculty of Medicine
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory

Experience:

  • Demonstrated training and experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), specifically in group facilitation for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
  • Proven experience working with patients with OCD in a mental health setting.
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary mental health team environment.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to providing client-centered, evidence-based care.
  • Ability to maintain clear and concise clinical documentation.
