Job Summary

Come work as a Rehabilitation Assistant with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), working out of Oak Care Centre as part of the Acquired Brain Injury Transitional Housing program! Apply now to join the team!  

 

Within the context of a client and family centred care model, this position functions under the operational supervision of the Manager or Team Leader and the work direction of a licensed designated occupational therapist or physiotherapist to work as a member of the health care team. Provides assigned physical / occupational therapy therapeutic interventions; assists in modification of OT/ PT care plans and facilitates transition to community programs in order to enable clients to maximize potential for independence. Provides functional direction to family, reports relevant observations of client's condition in writing or by utilizing basic computer literacy, manages equipment safety and inventory.

 

About the Acquired Brain Injury Transitional Housing Program

You will support a regional ABI Transitional Housing Program that has been co-designed in collaboration with specialists from across VCH, including brain injury, rehabilitation, substance use, mental health and safety. This is the first program of its kind in BC - one that provides a healing, client-driven (“meeting the client where they are at” and “nothing about me without me”), transitional location for people after their acute brain injury and hospitalization. As part of an interdisciplinary team in a community program you will care for clients throughout their stay including transitions and outreach to the community. The ABI program also emphasizes a supportive and innovative environment to learn and expand your knowledge and expertise.

 

As the Rehab Assistant (OT/PT)  you are passionate about helping those most impacted by the housing and toxic drug supply crises and working within a team-based care environment that emphasizes trauma informed, harm reduction and culturally safe care. Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a recognized Diploma level Rehabilitation Assistant Program with Occupational and Physical therapy components plus one (1) year's recent, related experience working with target population.
  • Valid BC Drivers License. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage will be reimbursed.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
