Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager or Director, the Senior Physician Compensation Analyst is responsible for leading and coordinating Physician Compensation planning, analysis, contract evaluation, and decision support related to physician compensation models, contracts and funding. The Senior Analyst will be part of the Finance Physician Compensation team and will work closely with leadership teams and key internal and external partners.

 

As a Senior Analyst, Physician Compensation with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Provide day to day leadership to designated analytical staff. Monitor and works within the assigned budget, and provides training, work direction, and coaching to assigned staff to meet organizational needs and priorities.
  • Coordinate the provision of data analysis and compensation modeling using key data sources (financial, population, clinical, organizational, and administrative) in response to medicine and quality portfolio, senior executive team and program level requests.
  • Provide lead support to overall financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting of the physician compensation portfolio. Review planning and evaluation documents prepared by assigned physician compensation analysts, ensuring in line with portfolio and departmental requirements.
  • Ensure proper period-end accounting of physician compensation costs and related funding, proper accrual and lead overall variance and forecast analysis.
  • Lead review of physician service contract payments to ensure complete and accurate payments as well as alignment with contract requirements.
  • Review financial evaluation of physician service contracts including Ministry and other sources of funding, fee for service recovery and cost implications.
  • Provide coordination support for utilization reporting and forecasting relating to physician service contracts funded by the Ministry.
  • Provide recommendations and identify opportunities for physician contract revenue analysis to the Manager or Director.
  • Work with provincial stakeholders on various physician compensation model initiatives. This may include working with the Ministry of Health, Health Employers Association of BC, Doctors of BC, Divisions of Family Practice, Medical Staff Associations, and other British Columbia Health Authorities. The focus of this work will be to review key assumptions and methods, provide data, and assist with interpretation and analysis of findings.
  • Work with representatives of other Health Authorities and other data custodians to support physician compensation analysis, interpretation, and reporting initiatives.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements.  Immediately report unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree and/or a CPA.
  • A minimum of five years of experience relevant to the duties of this position.
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.

  • Excellent computer skills in order to access and manipulate data from various systems to produce financial and other analysis and reports.
  • Strong analytical ability to meaningfully interpret and present data.
  • Must understand the full accounting and budgeting cycle.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
