As an Executive Director, Medical Affairs with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Report to the Vice President (VP), Medicine, Quality & Safety, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)
  • Provide senior level leadership to the Medical Affairs department and to the Regional Medical Directors (RMDs), Regional Department Heads (RDHs) in areas related to professional responsibilities and/or performance.
  • Be the primary professional link to all Senior Medical Directors (SMDs), who also have a direct reporting relationship to the VP with responsibility for their site.
  • Be responsible for the activities of the VCH Medical Affairs Department in the delivery of effective, efficient and consistent quality processes which support the privileging, credentialing and performance process for medical staff within VCH



Education & Experience

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in a related discipline such as Health Care Administration or Business Administration.
  • Five (5) years’ recent related experience in a senior administrative position within health care administration.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Uses strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving and innovation abilities to develop effective strategies and ensure support and attainment of goals.
  • Demonstrates commitment to advancing patient safety and quality across the health authority.
  • Working knowledge of current provincial policies, funding practices, and Federal and Provincial Health Statutes.
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge of current health care issues and utilization management strategies and programs.
  • Effectively leads change by striving for personal mastery, leading with vision, inspiring and engaging and promoting innovation.
  • Applies superior judgment and political expertise as well as a strong understanding of the essence and subtleties of communication to relay sensitive information and effectively persuade and negotiate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responds effectively to the needs of stakeholders while maintaining an acute awareness of the impact of actions.
  • Uses sound business acumen to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders throughout high profile endeavors.
  • Demonstrates ability to problem-solve with a global perspective in order to incorporate the organization’s systems and strategies when developing viable solutions to problems.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
