This is an exceptional opportunity for a full-time Obstetrics/Gynecology Specialist to join a thriving medical community on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. This permanent position involves sharing a collaborative full-service ObGyn practice with two other specialists offering a balanced professional life in one of British Columbia’s most scenic regions.
Sechelt Hospital is a 32-bed acute care hospital that serves the entire Sunshine Coast. The hospital provides acute surgical, medical, gynecologic and obstetrical inpatient/outpatient services supported by laboratory, diagnostic imaging (including CT) and rehabilitation services. It is also home to a 4-bed critical care unit.
Sechelt Hospital manages approximately 170 births per year. The ObGyn service includes a thriving primary care obstetrical service which includes family physicians and midwives. The specialist service provides consultative obstetrical services, emergency and elective caesarean deliveries. Lions Gate Hospital and BC Women's Hospital are our tertiary care referral sites for our high risk patients including cases less than 36 weeks gestational age. BC Cancer Services is our tertiary care referral site for complex oncology care. Patient Transfer Network (PTN) provides emergency transfers of our high risk and complex cases.
The gynecology service has an established gynecologic MIS program. Sechelt Hospital provides emergency, diagnostic imaging, general surgery and internal medicine support. The Sunshine Coast has a high elder population requiring management of complex prolapse and other pathologies.
Duties of the position include:
Obstetrics and Gynecology outpatient services will be provided in a private office in Sechelt, shared with the other Obstetrics/Gynecology specialists.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply for and hold a clinical appointment with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Columbia. As a clinical faculty member, the successful candidate will be expected to involve learners in clinical activity and participate in program development and student evaluation.
The Sunshine Coast peninsula is one of BC’s most scenic regions, accessible from West Vancouver's Horseshoe Bay with a 40-minute ferry ride. A backdrop of the majestic Coastal Mountain Range frames a myriad of bike and cross-country skiing trails and miles of beaches. The area is home to 32,000 residents – concentrated around the larger centres of Sechelt, Gibsons and Pender Harbour. This family-friendly community offers highly rated schools. Area residents enjoy an idyllic mix of water and land activities.
Education, Licensing, & Experience:
Candidate must have up-to-date skills in operative laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and surgical prolapse management. There is an opportunity for surgical mentoring of new graduates and surgical collaboration with fellow ObGyn and General Surgery specialists
