Come work as an Acute Care General Surgeon with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

The Lions Gate Hospital Division of General Surgery is seeking a full-time acute care general surgeon to support the on-call and emergency services in the hospital as part of the Acute Care Surgery (ACS) Service.

 

The ACS surgeon will be expected to provide call coverage for one week at a time with night-time respite three nights per week. The number of weeks is negotiable, but a minimum commitment of 13 weeks per year will be required. The ACS surgeon is responsible for rounding on all patients admitted through the emergency department daily, provide emergency surgical care to patients and engage in education and teaching on the ward as agreed upon by the group. There is no formal elective OR or endoscopy time associated with this position but there is dedicated emergency time during the day. There is opportunity to travel and provide relief in the communities of Sechelt and Powell River as well. 

 

The ideal candidate is expected to work collegially and collaboratively within the group. Preference will be given to candidates who have done either a formal fellowship in Acute Care Surgery (ACS) or have a demonstrated track record and commitment to ACS.

Lions Gate Hospital is a recognized Level 3 trauma centre and a key acute care provider for a population exceeding 270,000 residents across the North Shore and Sea-to-Sky Country. We are rapidly expanding with the upcoming new Medical and Surgical Centre, which will further establish LGH as a specialized regional facility. There is a closed ICU, full anesthesia support, interventional radiology and supporting surgical specialties including plastics and urology on site. Our new facilities, including the Paul Myers Tower with 108 private patient rooms and eight new operating rooms, ensure we remain at the forefront of healthcare delivery in the VCH region.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, & Experience:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Desired
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) - Desired
  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) - Full
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) - Mandatory
  • Surgical Skills- Mandatory
