Come work as a Family Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

The Venture Program is a community- based short-term, recovery-focused assessment and treatment program that provides an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization for adults 19 years or older. It offers a safe and supportive environment where clients receive mental health care, develop coping strategies, and build skills to manage their illness effectively. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate family physician to join our multidisciplinary team.

The family physician will provide comprehensive medical assessments, ongoing physical health monitoring, and management of acute or chronic medical conditions that may influence clients’ psychiatric presentation or overall functioning. Responsibilities include reviewing medical histories, performing focused examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing or adjusting non-psychiatric medications, and addressing any emerging medical concerns that arise during the stabilization period.

Collaboration with psychiatrists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals is essential. Participation in case conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, and family discussions may be required to support comprehensive treatment planning. The family physician will also assist in coordinating medical aspects of discharge planning, including follow-up with community primary care providers, specialists, or outpatient clinics.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and comfort working with adults experiencing acute psychiatric crises. Experience in collaborative care, mental health, addiction medicine, and hospital-based practice are highly recommended.
