Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse Educator to join the Nursing Administration team at Sechelt Hospital. Apply to join our team today!

 

As a Licensed Practical Nurse Educator, you will:

  • Work closely with stable or predictable acute, chronic and palliative populations within the acute care setting and within the context of the vision and values of the organization.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team utilizing evidence-informed practice and education theory to provide onboarding and educational programs that will achieve the most effective outcomes in the context of workplace learning.
  • Work with health care partners and key collaborators to ensure overall understanding of regional initiatives communicates progress and facilitate site-specific programs in meeting standards and overall goals.
  • Provide education services including individual or group educational activities to LPNs and/or other designated staff, measure education program success and amend plans accordingly.
  • Participate in research, policy, quality improvement and risk management activities.
  • Perform duties within a program and/or regional focus and may be required to work at multiple sites across Vancouver Coastal Health.

Sechelt Hospital is an acute care, 46-bed facility located in Sechelt, British Columbia and serves over 30,000+ residents of the Lower Sunshine Coast. Sechelt Hospital provides a full range of services to the community, including Emergency care, Renal program-community dialysis units, Mental Health and Substance Use Services, surgical services, birthing for low-risk pregnancies and imaging services.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three (3) years’ recent related clinical experience in Acute Care, including one (1) year teaching and/or leadership experience Completion of Vancouver Coastal Health Educator Pathway 1 or preceptorship experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Clinical proficiency/expertise in the designated clinical area.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client and family care.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and coach team members to promote an efficient and effective team based environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems efficiently and be resourceful.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust communication to suit the recipient and/or situation within a complex community environment.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and work collaboratively in partnership with learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration/consultation with others.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, database skills and computer literacy to operate a computerized client and scheduling information system.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to apply educational theories and evidence to teaching practices.
  • Ability to establish educational priorities to meet identified program, organization and learner needs.
  • Ability to facilitate learning and create effective learning environments.
  • Ability to deliver teaching/learning modalities and education materials that promote evidence-informed practice.
  • Ability to problem-solve and effectively deal with conflict situations.
  • Broad knowledge of chronic disease management and approaches to self-care.
  • Broad knowledge of harm reduction, Trauma Informed approaches and Indigenous Cultural Safety to client care.
  • Demonstrated ability in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) technique.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
