Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking an engaging and collaborative medical staff leader for the role of Regional Medical Director, Long Term Care. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Medicine and Academic Affairs, this role receives program direction from the Vice President of Community Services, the Regional Executive Sponsor to the Senior Executive Team. Working in co-leadership with the Regional Executive Director, Long Term Care, Assisted Living and Supported Housing, the Regional Medical Director provides strategic senior medical leadership for planning, evaluating, and advancing the Long Term Care regional program and associated services.
In partnership with the Regional Executive Director, this role will co-develop and implement regional strategies for VCH and Providence Health Care (PHC) that align with provincial mandates (e.g. Long Term Care, Assisted Living, Respite opportunities and Complex Housing options). Additionally, the role will maintain a high-functioning partnership among clinicians at the contracted/affiliated Long Term Care Homes and Assisted Living Facilities.
The Regional Medical Director will co-chair the Regional Program Committee with the Regional Executive Director to ensure consultation and close collaboration with Communities of Care (CoC) medical leadership and other operational partners responsible for delivering health care services, achieving ministry of health clinical services plan for program, service quality, and meeting volume and Long Term Care quality metrics and standards. They will also ensure consultation with academic leadership to support research and innovation within the program.
Guided by a population health approach, as a regional program medical leader designs and evaluates services to meet the diverse needs of the long-term care, assisted living and supported housing services population across the entities which include the Communities of Care (CoCs) and Providence Health Care (PHC), in accordance with regional, provincial and national standards and provincial legislation, policies and guidelines, , securing a high-quality, safe, and integrated continuum of care. While the coordination of regional planning, implementation and delivery of services will be the responsibility of the Regional Program, the day-to-day accountability for budget and performance targets rests with the respective community of care.
Key Accountabilities:
With direction from the Executive Sponsor and in partnership with the Regional Program Executive Director and Executive Sponsor for the Regional Program, this role is accountable for the following:
Ensure Equitable and Timely Access to Culturally Safe Care Across VCH and PHC
Ensure Consistent, Low-Carbon, and High-Quality Standards of Care
o Inter-regional capacity management.
o Leading cross-regional quality improvement initiatives (i.e. Medication Safety and Infection Prevention)
o Facilitating regional safety event reviews.
o Facilitating equity through team-based models of care, outreach, and virtual care across the region, including rural and remote communities.
Coordinate and Align Local, Regional, and Provincial Strategies and Policies
Provide a Single Point of Contact for Each Service Within the Health Authority
