Reporting to the Director, and in co-management with the Medical Manager(s) is accountable for the effective and efficient functioning of the Short Stay Assessment and Treatment Inpatient and Day Program (STAT). The Patient Services Manager is co-responsible for providing leadership and direction for the operations management, utilization and risk management, and quality improvement of the clinical program. He/she plays a critical role in linking his/her portfolio with community health services to address the ongoing issues/needs of clients and their families and to ensure a smooth transition from the STAT Centre environment to appropriate community health services. In addition to leading an inter-disciplinary team, works as a team player with colleagues and co-workers and in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve excellence in client and family centred care, education and research within a complex multi-site environment that extends to the community.

 

As a Patient Services Manager, Short Stay Assessment and Treatment Inpatient and Day Program with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Create an effective workforce plan to meet operational demands and environmental resource constraints.
  • Manage and balance unit budget and makes knowledgeable recommendations for budget development and seeks remedies for budget variances
  • Manage effective and efficient practices and processes for monitoring/measuring the use of human and material resources and the quality of care rendered within allocated budget.
  • Identify services, service gaps, clinical and system processes to improve and or provide maximum program efficiencies.
  • Work to improve and provide maximum program efficiency and system integration to promote client centred care.
  • Apply effective performance management processes in an interdisciplinary team environment. Supports clarity of roles, adherence to accreditation and practice standards and safe delivery of services/care.
  • Participate in leadership groups across VCH to promote consistency and best practice in services and models for the responsible program areas. Recommends policy to promote consistency and best practice.
  • Encourage partnerships and systems that facilitate optimal population health service delivery, reduce or eliminate health service inequities and promote healthy communities.


QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education & Experience

  • Baccalaureate (Masters preferred) in a relevant discipline plus (5) to (7) year’s recent, related progressive leadership experience that includes experience in a position responsible for the provision of community and geriatric services or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current registration/membership with a recognized professional association.
  • Excellent communication skills to function within a complex interdisciplinary environment including ability to communicate with the physician community.
  • Basic computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and/or data base programs and ability to utilize a computerized patient care system required.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Exhibits comprehensive knowledge and skillful application of principles of geriatric evaluation and management.
  • Exhibits comprehensive knowledge and skillful application of relevant departmental policies, provincial and municipal legislative requirements and other programs and processes related to community and family health.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment
  • Understands available resources for service and keeps quality in the forefront of all resource utilization decisions.
  • Facilitates, collaborates and negotiates for effective resolution of human resource issues.
  • Fosters collaborative working relationships and supports the ongoing development of staff.
  • Has extensive knowledge and skills in fiscal management
  • Promotes development of clinical research opportunities to ensure evidence-based practice within an interdisciplinary team-based environment.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
