Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking expressions of interest from qualified Gynecologists with an expertise or interest in working at B.C Centre for Sexual Medicine (BCCSM) based in the Blusson Spinal Cord Unit for a 0.1 FTE position.

The BCCSM was founded in 1974 by Dr. George Szasz in response to neglect of this area of medicine, especially sexual dysfunction in the context of chronic disease and/or disability such as spinal cord injury. Dr. Szasz was awarded the Order of Canada for his work in sexual rehabilitation of persons with disability including fertility rehabilitation of spinal cord injured men. Our goal is still to provide optimal assessment and management of sexual dysfunction in both well and unwell populations.

The BC Centre for Sexual Medicine is a province-wide clinic that sees individuals and couples over 18 with a variety of sexual dysfunctions for consultation, treatment recommendations or implementation if indicated. Many have chronic health conditions. We offer group therapy for sexual pain, erectile dysfunction, as well as low desire, interest, and anorgasmia. Treatment approaches include individual, couple and group formats.  MBCT and CBT as well as hormonal and pharmacological modalities are often used in combination. We also provide assisted reproductive strategies for individuals with sexual dysfunction impacting fertility (e.g. sperm retrieval, needleless syringe).

In accordance with the standards of practice and the established vision and values of VCH, the Gynecologist who accepts this position at our tertiary care center will assess, diagnose and provide specialized short-term treatment and/ or treatment recommendations for adults with sexual medicine concerns referred to our clinic by primary care providers or specialist physicians from the province of British Columbia.

The Gynecologist, will also participate in the training and education of medical students, residents and other allied health professionals. Active participation in academic activities is expected and participation in clinical research is encouraged.
