As Communications Leader, Special Projects on the Communications and Public Affairs team, you lead organizational communications initiatives to advance Vancouver Coastal Health’s purpose, values and strategic priorities.

 

A current key initiative is the advancement of cultural safety across all Communities of Care. Grounded in our core values of oneVCH where we care for everyone, we are always learning and we strive for better results, you will lead stakeholder communications to acknowledge, address, and condemn racism in our health care facilities – from patient care and from the environment in which we deliver care.

 

Working in partnership with organizational leaders, you will support the development and implementation of a comprehensive action plan to encourage anti-racism engagement and create a safe, caring environment for our staff and medical staff so they feel supported in providing exceptional care to patients, clients and residents, free of discrimination.

 

As a Communications Leader with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Lead and supports communications projects to advance the organization’s purpose, values and strategic direction.
  • Lead simultaneous projects and assignments, including the development of strategic communications plans, messaging and tactics to engage and influence attitude or behaviour change.
  • Oversee communications project budgets and deadlines, ensuring overall quality, consistency and effectiveness of communications against key performance indicators.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to advance communications goals and provides guidance and coaching to advance communications best practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or Journalism plus a minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Advanced abilities with various computer applications, including a working knowledge of social media tools.
  • The ideal candidate will possess an impressive record of achievement in determining the views and perspectives of multiple audiences - internal and external - and in designing communications and change management strategies that reflect those needs in advancing organizational goals and objectives.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Develops, edits, reviews and provides advice on internal and external communications to enhance cultural safety and racial equity across VCH.
  • Has sound knowledge of the impacts of racism and discrimination in the workplace and how it is reflected in the health care system.
  • Has a deep commitment and demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and humility.
  • Leads with self-awareness and adapts to cultural uniqueness to create a sense of safety for all.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and application of communication concepts, strategies, technical skills required in the planning, execution and evaluation of communication plans for internal and external audiences.
  • Superior writing, editing and storytelling skills, to aid in the production of high quality and compelling communication materials.
  • Appreciation of employee engagement and change management techniques to be mindful of opportunities for effective collaboration with other corporate services and teams to advance strategic priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects on budget and on deadline; supervises internal and coordinates external suppliers.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as an internal consultant to creatively meet client needs and build strategic alliances with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Applies superior conflict management, critical thinking, judgment and political expertise to develop and present key messages, and persuade and influence internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective and appropriate communications.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive issues with skill, tact and diplomacy and to act with a high degree of ethical and professional behavior.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
