Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a VGH SIM Learning and Innovation Lead to join the VGH Simulation Centre Team. Apply today to join our team!  

 

The VGH Simulation Centre (VGH SIM) provides a safe, realistic, and innovative environment where healthcare teams can learn, practice, and refine their skills to improve patient care. With 12 specialized training spaces, including a high-fidelity simulation suite, cadaveric Wet Lab, lecture rooms, and multipurpose education spaces, the Centre supports learners locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally.

 

As a VGH SIM Learning and Innovation Lead with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Be part of a key leadership role within the VGH Simulation Centre, advancing excellence in healthcare simulation, education, and patient safety.
  • Integrate your clinical expertise, educational leadership, and innovation to design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality learning experiences for VCH frontline staff and all of VGH SIM's clientele.
  • Support the Centre’s mission of immediate impact for patient care today, while building capacity, scholarship, and sustainability for the future.
  • Provide leadership across the site, including the short and long term education, training, safety, operations, and research strategies, in collaboration with the Manager, ensuring all learning activities are safe, effective, evidence-informed, and aligned with VCH values: We Care for Everyone, We Are Always Learning, We Strive for Better Results.

Impact of the Role:
By providing leadership across multiple portfolios � education, safety, scholarship, and growth � the Learning and Innovation Lead helps ensure that the VGH Simulation Centre:

  • Supports frontline healthcare providers with high-quality, relevant learning.
  • Operates safely and in compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Grows sustainably through partnerships and revenue reinvestment.
  • Contributes to healthcare innovation, research, and improved patient outcomes.
  • Delivers world-class ACLS and BLS training, strengthening life-saving skills across VCH.
  • Supports healthcare providers and teams in improving patient outcomes and saving lives.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Registered healthcare professional (e.g., RN, RT, physician, paramedic or equivalent) in good standing.
  • Master’s Degree in Education, or other related field, and/ or and equivalent seven (7) years’ recent, related experience in a complex health environment, including progressive clinical education, and education program planning and delivery experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience applying ACLS algorithms in clinical practice, with demonstrated expertise to teach the ACLS algorithms is required.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Clinical Expertise in Resuscitation – Applies ACLS algorithms confidently in practice and instruction; translates clinical expertise into effective education for Heart & Stroke ACLS and BLS learners.
  • Educational Leadership – Designs, delivers, and evaluates simulation-based learning; mentors facilitators and staff to enhance instructional quality.
  • Collaboration & Relationship Building – Builds trusting, respectful relationships with colleagues, learners, partners, and stakeholders across disciplines.
  • Systems & Operational Awareness – Anticipates needs, integrates safety and regulatory requirements, and improves processes that support effective simulation. Actively participates in VGH SIM foundational tasks, including opening and closing the Centre, setting up and tearing down simulation spaces, maintaining equipment, completing audits, and ensuring bookings are completed.
  • Innovation & Curiosity – Stays informed of advances in simulation, resuscitation, and healthcare education; introduces creative approaches to teaching and operational efficiency.
  • Communication & Facilitation – Engages diverse learners and stakeholders with clarity, empathy, and respect, fostering psychologically safe and inclusive learning environments.
  • Scholarship & Research Orientation – Contributes to research, scholarly output, and quality improvement initiatives in simulation-based education.
  • Equity, Diversity & Inclusion – Promotes cultural safety, inclusivity, and anti-racism in teaching, leadership, and collaboration.

  • Physical Capability & Safety Awareness – Physically able to perform duties that require movement, equipment setup, and hands-on simulation support while modelling a safe and healthy work environment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
