The Occupational Therapy Regional Practice Initiatives Lead is a pivotal leadership role within Vancouver Coastal Health’s Allied Health Professional Practice team. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape and advance occupational therapy practice across the region through strategic initiatives, clinical leadership, and collaborative innovation. This RPIL role is in the position to initiate, influence or lead practice changes at the system-level that ultimately positively impact the care and quality of life of the clinical populations served by OT.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Strategic Leadership & Regional Impact: The role spans both regional and local scopes, enabling the Lead to influence practice standards, drive quality improvement, and support operational excellence across diverse care settings
  • Practice Development & Education: Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical education programs and resources. Provides mentorship and consultation to clinical educators and frontline staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence
  • Scope Optimization & Standards Setting: Identifies opportunities to optimize scope of practice, leads SPRRC proposals, and ensures alignment with best practice guidelines and legislative standards. Oversees the creation and revision of clinical decision support tools (DSTs) and practice standards
  • Collaborative Engagement: Works closely with Practice Leaders, Regional Educators, and interdisciplinary teams to support clinicians through consultation, education, and resource development. The role is embedded in the Richmond CoC and contributes to regional initiatives that enhance care delivery

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in an Allied Health discipline supplemented with three (3) to five (5) year’s recent, related experience in a complex health care environment including clinical informatics, program planning, education, facilitation and project leadership or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration in the recognized provincial college or professional association.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Understands available resources for practice and keeps quality in the forefront of all resource utilization decisions; provides knowledgeable input into the planning and resources allocation for Service(s)/Program(s) within VCH.
  • Demonstrated Clinical Informatics experience.
  • Facilitates, collaborates and negotiates for effective resolution of practice issues.
  • Keeps informed about evolving tends and practices, shares knowledge and supports Nurses and Allied Health staff to integrate evidence-based practice in the delivery of quality care/services.
  • Fosters collaborative and effective working relationships to support the professional practice and ongoing development of staff and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
  • Extensive experience/base in clinical practice document/protocol development and implementation.
  • Extensive understanding of Health Professions Act.
