Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Nurse Clinician (RN/RPN) to join the Operational Stress Injury (OSI) team working out of BC OSI Clinic in Victoria, BC. Apply today to join our team!

 

Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic:

 

The BC OSI Clinic provides specialized mental health services to clients and their families referred by Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Department of National Defense (DND), who are experiencing problems due to work-related psychological trauma and stress (e.g. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other anxiety disorders; depression; chronic pain, etc). The services of the BC OSI Clinic are provided by an interdisciplinary team of psychiatry, psychology, nursing, social work and external contracted specialists.

 

As a Nurse Clinician (RN/RPN) you will:

  • Act as a clinical resource for nurses by providing information based on specialized theory and practice.
  • Provide continuity of care by case managing Veterans, Canadian Forces members and RCMP members referred to the BC Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic.
  • Provide client intake, triage and health status monitoring, liaise with other team members, coordinate ongoing care and support transition to the community or other health care facility.
  • Consult, confer, and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, educational resources and other health care professionals to achieve excellence in client centred care, education and research.
  • Collaborate with other staff on the development of client service plans and on the delivery of a range of client services and program activities (e.g. education and treatment groups, outreach, community education, and research)

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Five (5) years' recent clinical nursing experience in post-traumatic stress disorders, mood and anxiety disorders or related area, preferably in a military or police services environment, working with members of the military or police forces, and their families or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) would be an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centred care model.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the BCCNM Standards for Practice for Registered Nurses or Registered Psychiatric Nurses as applicable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to mental health client population.
  • Knowledge and experience with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and addiction issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, coach and facilitate staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues of military and police clients and sensitivity to the particular challenges of veterans and serving members, and their families, with service-related mental health problems
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict situations.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated skills in CPR Techniques.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including MS Office suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
