Come work as a Psychiatrist for DBT group with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

As the Co-facilitator, Youth DBT Skills Group, you'll play a crucial role in delivering an evidence-based treatment to youth facing significant emotional and behavioral challenges. This position is a 0.1 FTE, dedicating approximately 3 hours per week to co-facilitating a weekly in-person DBT skills group and associated clinical consultation.

 

You'll be an integral part of our collaborative, interdisciplinary team, reporting to the Head and Medical Director, Department of Psychiatry, Vancouver Acute, through the Medical Manager of the Access & Assessment Centre. This role offers the chance to directly impact the lives of young people and contribute to their well-being within a supportive medical environment.

 

As Psychiatrist for DBT Group with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

  • Co-facilitate a weekly 2-hour in-person DBT skills group for youth, ensuring a structured, engaging, and safe environment.
  • Dedicate an additional 1.0 hours weekly for pre/post group consultation to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.
  • Deliver core DBT modules, including Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
  • Provide medical oversight and clinical leadership within the group as appropriate for a psychiatrist.
  • Support youth in learning, practicing, and generalizing DBT skills.
  • Work collaboratively with the primary group facilitator and the broader CYMH team.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of group sessions and client progress.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, clinical supervision, and case consultations as required.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of the DBT program within CYMH.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, & Experience:

  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – Full
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) – Mandatory
  • Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the UBC Faculty of Medicine is an asset.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to providing client-centered, evidence-based care.
  • Ability to maintain clear and concise clinical documentation.
  • Demonstrated training and experience in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), specifically in group facilitation.
  • Proven experience working with children and youth in a mental health setting, particularly those presenting with complex emotional dysregulation.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development, mental health challenges, and family systems.
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary mental health team environment.
