Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Clinical Counsellor to join the Early Psychosis Intervention team in Richmond, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Clinical Counsellor with VCH you will:

  • Perform comprehensive psychosocial assessments, which may include outreach visits, with adults experiencing psychosis or those who are a risk of developing psychosis.
  • Coordinate care for clients and implements therapeutic interventions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to determine priority and best of approach to care.
  • Develop, implements and adjusts individualized treatment plan based on client needs, standards, policies and best practices.
  • Provide evidence based treatment services including individual counseling, family sessions, groups and psycho-education according to Provincial EPI Standards and Guidelines.
  • Initiate and participates in case conferences/meetings with clients and their family, service providers and members of the multidisciplinary team in order to foster communication, ongoing assessment and revision of treatment plans.
  • Collaborate, consult and provide clinical support to colleagues for continuity of care, treatment concerns, early identification strategies, specialized services and community resource coordination.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology from an accredited academic institution.
  • Three (3) years’ recent related clinical experience working with the designated client population or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid B.C. driver's license. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement is paid.
  • Eligible for registration as a Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and/or certification as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness and substance use.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of counselling theories, clinical assessments and appropriateness with various client populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess clients at risk and knowledge of appropriate acts (i.e. Mental Health Act) as it relates to the rights of clients and staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental issues and theories related to mental illness and substance use, particularly early identification and treatment or primary symptoms of psychotic illness for client population.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric theory and practice within a client centered approach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental theory/issue and family systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention and community resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of adult education and utilization of education tools and materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability in psychiatric assessment, treatment planning and care, and case co-ordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients their families, service providers, colleagues, physician, and other health care staff, both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, organize and prioritize workload and adapt to a changing workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide crisis intervention, psychoeducation, family sessions, and group therapy.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide consultation and work direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare case summaries and clinical records.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide client-centered and culturally sensitive care.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
