Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Coordinator with a bachelor's degree in a social sciences field to join the Peer Based Program team in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Coordinator for the Peer Based Program at Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Be responsible to develop and coordinate designated programs and workshops to promote harm reduction and health promotion related to sexual health and / or safer drug use.

  • Develop program-related information for the designated client population applicable to the program.

  • Coordinate workshops, recruit, orient and train new volunteers/peers.

  • Coordinate the deployment of volunteers/peers and provide work direction to volunteers/peers.

  • Evaluate volunteers/peers’ performance and addresses concerns.

  • Act as a resource for staff, ensures the goals of the program are achieved and the evaluation process is established.

  • Administers workshop budget and provides communications that support program promotion.

  • Liaises with health care providers, colleagues, community mental health services, and mainstream or youth community organizations/agencies.

  • Maintains intranet web pages.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with a counseling emphasis, Counselling or a related discipline.
  • Three (3) year’s of recent, related experience working with the designated program client population, working with volunteers/peers in community service work and providing health promotion and harm reduction education in the areas of sexual health and / or drug use or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of HIV, hepatitis C and STIs and their impact on the community
  • Knowledge of issues related to sexual health promotion and sexual wellness
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices
  • Knowledge of peer-driven interventions
  • Demonstrated facilitation, leadership, public speaking and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
  • Ability to provide work direction
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in relevant software, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software application and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to be sensitive, tactful and diplomatic with clients and the public.
  • Ability to prepare presentation, promotional material and business correspondence.
  • Ability to prepare and update web pages.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of interruptions and adapt to changes.
  • Ability to compile and present information.
  • Ability to do mathematical calculations and monitor budgets.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
