Job Summary

Come work as the Vice-President, Vancouver Acute Services with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

  

Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), the Vice President, Vancouver Acute Services (VP) provides strategic and operational leadership for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Acute Services across the Vancouver Acute Community of Care. Functioning within a dyad model, the VP partners closely with senior medical executives, including the Senior Medical Directors, and collaborates closely with other health system partners to advance integrated, patient-centred care.

 

A core member of the Senior Executive Team, and with responsibility spanning a large and diverse urban population, the VP must anticipate and respond to the evolving health needs of the region while considering provincial priorities. Additionally, they foster strong relationships with key internal and external partners to align acute services with broader organizational goals and provincial health mandates. This includes supporting VCH’s academic and research mission and ensuring that services are delivered efficiently and effectively.

 

The ideal candidate is a visionary and dynamic healthcare leader with extensive experience in managing complex, multi-site healthcare operations. They are a strategic thinker with the ability to translate high-level goals into actionable plans, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care and the continuous improvement of healthcare services. With a proven track record of leading large teams, driving innovation, and fostering collaboration, the VP will have demonstrated success in advancing patient-centered care models while balancing operational efficiency and fiscal responsibility. They possess a deep understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion, with an ability to integrate these values into organizational strategies. A relationship-builder by nature, the ideal candidate will have a strong ability to engage and align internal and external stakeholders, from medical leadership to government partners, in achieving common goals. With expertise in change management, the VP will lead and support their team through transformation, while promoting a culture of excellence and accountability.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Postgraduate degree in a clinical discipline plus fifteen (15) years of experience in a senior position responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of operational and strategic plans in a large multi-site unionized environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Senior leadership experience in the healthcare sector is highly desirable.

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
  • Demonstrated track record of clinical and senior administrative experience in a specialty or discipline that is aligned with the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, developing and implementing change through collaboration and respectful work relationships with internal and external partners and agencies.
  • Inspires a shared vision and aligns performance goals and objectives for teams and while maintaining group cohesiveness, motivation, commitment and effectiveness.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring and developing medical staff and others to become leaders within the organization.
  • Applies superior conflict management skills and expertise to persuade and negotiate consensus and effective resolution of issues/disputes.
  • Anticipates future changes in service delivery and develops transition strategies that optimize resource utilization and ultimately improve efficiency and quality of patient care.
  • Uses sound business acumen to manage the fiscal resources of assigned programs/services in a manner that is financially responsible and consistent with the overall goals of the organization.

Closing Statement

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
