As a Health Record Administrator with VCH, you will:

  • Assist in the provision of quality and resource utilization information, and the development, operation and maintenance of clinical databases, research, audits and statistical analysis, under limited supervision and in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Perform data analysis, prepare and submit statistical reports, provide expertise regarding medical documentation, and promote the exchange of patient care data.
  • Monitor work quality and efficiency, assess and respond to written and verbal requests for information, and facilitate access to information from external organizations.
  • Prepare and conduct education and presentation sessions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12, graduation from an approved program for Health Record Administration and successful completion of the Canadian College of Health Record Administrators examination at the Certificant Level.
  • Two (2) years' recent related experience including one (1) year data interpretation, analysis and coding or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use advanced computerized databases; for example, Access and Crystal.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian Institute for Health Information's coding and abstracting systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pathophysiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to use standard Windows 95 software; including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyze statistical information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with others.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
