As a People Analytics Specialist Specialist with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Be an active member of a dynamic cross functional Agile team dedicated to support leaders across Vancouver Costal Health Authority.
  • Be responsible for measuring, analyzing and improving People data using SQL, Tableau, and SSRS.
  • Customize reporting to suit business needs and advise management on recommendations for implementing and improving processes impacting staffing work processes, patient care, and optimize the use of organizational resources.
  • Actively participate to innovate projects using advanced analytics and machine learning methods and tools using Python and MS Azure cloud computing services.
  • Build a strong working knowledge of data analytics projects in a large scale company.


As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Information Technology or related field, plus one (1) to two (2) years’ recent, related experience in data analysis and data quality management, including the use of querying tools (e.g. SQL, PeopleSoft, Access, Excel) to access relational databases, and analysis tools (e.g. Tableau, SSRS, SPSS, Python, R), or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Writes queries in SQL to extract data from relational databases in preparation for analysis.
  • Contributes to the development of data warehouse infrastructure through warehouse design recommendations, and writing SQL stored procedures.
  • Uses strong statistical skills to analyze data and information.
  • Strong knowledge of data quality processes.
  • Strong facilitation and education skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to function in both a long-term strategic perspective and short term operational perspective. Comprehends broad implications of business decisions.
  • Ability to produce fast data analysis responses to ad hoc questions from various HR stakeholders.
  • Identifies, collects and analyses relevant data and information including industry-wide assessments and research.
  • Innovative and results oriented.
  • Keeps abreast of technology changes, anticipates opportunities and ensures readiness for future technology changes and enhancements.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the role.
  • Ability to work effectively in both self-directed and team environments.
  • Exercises strong initiative, self-direction and problem-solving abilities to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Practices diligence and care when gathering, maintaining, monitoring, calculating and summarizing data. Ability to gather, summarize and report information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
