We are recruiting a neurologist with subspecialty training in headache disorders to join our Headache Program based at the University of British Columbia Hospital (UBCH). It is anticipated that headache clinic space will be available for 2-3 days per week. The candidate must be committed to teaching and education. Participation or initiation of clinical research and clinical trials in headache is encouraged. This is an excellent opportunity to expand our headache program and evolve into a leadership role.
The candidate will also be expected to participate actively as a ward manager and as a consult manager for general neurology services at the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) as well as participating on the on-call roster for general neurology. These services manage a busy complex in-hospital neurology patient load. There is a separate Stroke Service for management of cerebrovascular disorders. The Vancouver General Hospital is the main tertiary care hospital in B.C for complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Both UBCH and VGH are teaching hospitals. The VGH/UBC Hospitals are served by approximately 60 neurologists. We serve a large and extremely diverse patient population. We have a large neurology residency program. Most clinical service programs have post-graduate fellows.
This is a clinical position. Remuneration is on a Fee for Service basis. The candidate will be encouraged to maintain a private office for activities outside of the Headache Clinic.
Vancouver is a large coastal city with a temperate climate. The population of metro Vancouver is greater than 3 million with a rich ethnic diversity. There are a wealth of recreational, social and cultural activities. Vancouver is in close proximity to Whistler, a world class ski and all season resort , and has immediate access to the waters of the Pacific Northwest for fishing, boating, and sailing.
The candidate must be have Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status and must be eligible for full licensure with the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons
Education, Licensing, & Experience:
This position involves an interesting mix of working in a hospital based headache clinic, the option of additional private office-based practice, and acute and in-patient hospital general neurology is a very large and busy teaching hospital.
