Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Cardiac Exercise Specialist to join the Cardiac Rehabilitation team at Vancouver General Hospital. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Cardiac Exercise Specialist you will:

  • Implement exercise rehabilitation services by planning and leading individual and group exercise sessions, facilitating cardiac health education workshops, and counseling cardiac rehabilitation clients on suitable exercise regimes.
  • Administers exercise programs designed to enhance aerobic endurance, cardiovascular function, muscular strength, and endurance, balance and range of motion.
  • Support pre-participation health screening and implement physician exercise prescriptions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team to enhance quality of life, manage health risk, monitor progress, and promote lasting health behaviour change for patients and clients challenged with cardiovascular diseases and disorders in order to maximize the client’s capabilities.
  • Ensure the integration and coordination of quality care in the Cardiac exercise service.

Qualifications

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or Human Kinetics, or Exercise Sciences from a recognized program.
  • Two (2) years’ recent, related experience in working in a cardiac rehabilitation environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist with either the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) or the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct individual and/or group cardiac exercise programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with prescribing physician to modify exercise for cardio-pulmonary limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and respond to complications.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational/resource programs and materials for clients and staff.
  • Ability to educate, demonstrate, facilitate, motivate and coach clients in cardiac exercise rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully, tactfully and effectively with co-workers, physicians and other health care staff and clients both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability of CPR techniques and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Broad knowledge of American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) standards of practice.
  • Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Ability to use related equipment.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
