As a Clinical Dietitian with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

• Work within a self-directed work team and provides a broad spectrum of nutrition services to a multi-cultural population within the Renal Program.
• Apply extensive knowledge, skill and clinical experience to assess, plan, evaluate and implement nutritional goals and care plans.
• Utilize advanced clinical techniques such as urea kinetic modelling as well as knowledge of chronic renal failure treatment modalities to enhance assessment and care plans.
• Participate in the development of clinical dietetic practice guidelines and procedures for the hospital and provincial renal programs.
• Initiate practice-based research projects in collaboration with the health care team.

Education & Experience

• Current full registration as a Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
• Registered with Restricted Activities A and B.
• Two (2) years’ recent, related clinical experience in a general medical/acute care setting with renal experience preferred plus Board certification in renal nutrition by the American Dietetic Association or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Broad knowledge of Clinical Nutrition theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
• Broad knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
• Broad knowledge of assessing clients with multi-system nutritional problems.
• Broad knowledge of chronic renal failure nutrition management and principles of education.
• Broad knowledge of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
• Broad knowledge of multi-cultural including typical diet/foods, religion and traditions.
• Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
• Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
• Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care plan, and to respond appropriately.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with (both verbally and in writing), and to deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care professionals, clients and their families, and external agencies.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and implement nutrition care plans in relation to client/family priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, deal with conflict situations, and problem-solve and to think critically.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and counsel clients with chronic disease.
• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Demonstrated skill in the use of equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
• Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.
• Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system and Internet, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
