Come work as Psychiatrist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!
The psychiatrist will work with other physicians and clinicians in a multidisciplinary team to provide psychiatric care for youth and young adults ages 13-30 with suspected or confirmed first-episode psychosis. The physician role involves assessment and ongoing care as appropriate, medication management, individual and family therapy, crisis management, and consultation to the team. The multidisciplinary team services include case management, occupational therapy support, cognitive remediation, concurrent disorder counseling, individual placement support for employment, and patient and family groups. Vancouver EPI Program offers a full range of services and complies with British Columbia Standards and Guidelines for Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Programs.
Time commitment: 0.3 or 0.4 FTE, equivalent of 1.5 to 2 days per week.
Clinical skills
Reporting to the Medical Director, Vancouver Community Mental Health & Substance Use Services, and through them to the Senior Medical Director, the successful candidate should have a strong knowledge base in psychopharmacology and cognitive/behavioral interventions. Additionally, he/she will facilitate continuity of care between hospital and community and liaise with hospital physicians and staff. Occasional outreach visits in the community may be expected.
All VCH physicians must be appointed as medical staff of Vancouver Coastal Health; on-call participation is optional. A clinical faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine is highly encouraged as resident supervision and involvement in education initiatives is an expectation.
