Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Occupational Therapist Supervisor to join the Mental Health Housing Services team in Richmond, BC. Apply today to join our team! 

 

As an Occupational Therapist Supervisor, with VCH you will:

  • Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team and provide supervision to non-paramedical staff.
  • Plan, develop and implement psychosocial rehabilitation assessment and intervention to clients living in the continuum of supported mental health and addiction housing.
  • Provide occupational therapy services to clients who are seriously affected by substance abuse and mental health problems to enable clients to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes.
  • Perform assessments on client’s occupational performance utilizing an evidence-based approach.
  • Plan and implement outcome oriented services, and evaluate the effectiveness of the services.
  • Act as a clinical resource for the team.
  • Prepare and maintain records.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary research. 
  • Demonstrate safe and effective resource utilization and quality management, and contribute to the development, review and promotion of occupational therapy services.
  • As required, contribute to the organization and delivery of occupational therapy services, and participate in departmental/program quality improvement initiatives, meetings, research and education.
  • Collaborate with family members / significant others, inter-disciplinary team members, educational resources and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in health services and education.
  • Act as a consultant to case managers and housing providers to help determine optimal support and housing options for clients.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy and two (2) years experience in a mental health or addiction setting working with adults, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
  • Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement is paid.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness and addiction.
  • Considerable understanding of occupational therapy principles and technique/ psychosocial rehabilitation principles and techniques.
  • Broad knowledge of health care and social service systems, as well as community resources, community health agencies, social services, service mandates, and referral guidelines.
  • Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to tenants and their support network.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse cultural, economic and social backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated abilities in facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution techniques, and demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, evaluate and modify rehabilitation programs/services and to plan/deliver and evaluate therapeutic programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, organize and prioritize workload and adapt to a changing caseload.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct functional and specialized OT assessments.
  • Working knowledge of mental illness and substance abuse disorders
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to defuse difficult and complex situations.
  • An interest and ability to work within a systems approach to the delivery of housing services.
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Ability to plan/deliver in-services to individuals and groups.
  • Ability to stimulate clients' interest, assess results of programs and work effectively on an individual or group basis.
  • Ability and commitment to work well with administration support and clerical staff are essential.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to carry out the physical demands of the job.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
