As a Clinical Dietitian with VCH you will:

  • Work within a self-directed work team and provide nutrition care services to clients of the Diabetes Centre (DC).
  • Utilize advanced clinical techniques in the area of diabetes management and nutritional/diabetes counselling to individuals and client groups.
  • Act as a clinical resource for dietitians and other health care providers in the hospital and other facilities/agencies.
  • Provide information to internal/external sources on nutritional management/practice via consultations, in-services and presentations.
  • Develop nutritional related guidelines, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, modifies/establishes procedures/standards for the DC.
  • Collaborate with members of the health care team to initiate practice-based research projects.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Registered with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC) and two (2) years’ recent, related hospital experience in a diabetes clinical setting and certification as a Diabetes Educator, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of clinical dietetic theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of assessing clients with multi-system nutritional problems.
  • Broad knowledge of diabetes management and principles of education.
  • Broad knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and Dietitians of Canada.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care plan, and to respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with (both verbally and in writing), and to deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care professionals, clients and their families, and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement nutrition care plans in relation to client/family priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, deal effectively with conflict situations, problem-solve, and to think critically.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop practice guidelines within a program.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach clients with chronic disease.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system and Internet, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
