Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Concurrent Disorders Clinician to join the Youth Outreach Mental Health team in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Concurrent Disorders Clinician with VCH you will:

  • Works as part of a community interdisciplinary mental health team to facilitate the development of youth mental illness prevention and early identification/intervention strategies.

  • Reviews systemic issues, assists in building community capacity and creating a shared vision and a common understanding of the issues.

  • Provides education services to school staff and other service providers utilizing an evidence based model to increase awareness of youth mental illness and concurrent disorders (i.e. substance abuse) and to assist in creating safe and healthy communities, develops education materials and resources, delivers educational sessions, and develops, coordinates and provides early intervention services, including psychoeducation, family sessions, and parent groups.

  • Collaborates, consults and builds linkages with schools, physicians, Ministry of Child and Family Development, colleagues, community youth mental health and addiction services, and other community organizations/agencies.

  • Attends child and youth mental health program and team meetings, participates in continuing education, prepares statistical data and writes reports, maintains knowledge in mental illness and concurrent disorders, and participates in quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in a behavioral science from a recognized program.
  • Three (3) years’ recent related experience providing mental health and/or substance abuse treatment/prevention in a youth and family setting, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of youth mental health and substance abuse/addiction resources and other youth community service providers.
  • Broad knowledge of mental illness and treatment, substance abuse and addictions treatment, and the assessment and treatment of concurrent disorders.
  • Broad knowledge of the normal growth and development of youth.
  • Broad knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counselling skills.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of adult education and utilization of education tools and materials.
  • Broad knowledge of school, legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to the client.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and youth, and their families, educational personnel, service providers, colleagues, physician, and other health care staff, both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
