As a Financial Analyst, you will perform accounting functions such as journal entry processing, account reconciliation, variance analysis, assisting with the preparation of financial and statistical reports, and supporting various ad hoc projects.


As a Financial Analyst (Accounting) with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Perform reconciliations of various accounts by methods such as reviewing, extracting and interpreting information from the general ledger, determining reasons for discrepancies and providing explanation for significant variances/discrepancies. Prepare corrective journal entries to be reviewed by the Manager. 

  • Assist with period end tasks including the preparation of journal entries and related reporting. 

  • Prepare various ad hoc reports, financial schedules, as well as year-end working papers and supporting schedules for the auditors. 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

  • Perform a variety of duties related to the review and reporting of organization-wide capital asset information.
  • Be an expert in the PeopleSoft Asset Management module and maintain the applicable database and information.
  • Play a key role in ensuring compliance with Ministry of Health mandates by interpreting asset attributes and capital asset compliance.
  • Provide support/advice to Financial Services, Financial Planning and Operational departments by performing data reviews and ad hoc data queries, ensuring information accuracy on existing assets and consistency with operational department databases.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field or finalist in a recognized professional accounting program (CPA) supplemented by ERP related Information Systems courses
  • Five (5) years’ recent, related experience within a large organization with an emphasis on financial systems and reporting or equivalent combination of training, education and experience
  • Advanced knowledge/experience working with complex financial computer systems and Excel required. A working knowledge of PeopleSoft Asset Management is an asset

  • Strong ability to work in a time sensitive, multi-project environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to change and process management.
  • Uses advanced computer skills including the ability to use financial information systems and related software for financial management and reporting purposes at an advanced level.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
