Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Respiratory Therapist to join the team at the Vancouver General Hospital as an Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Educator in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Respiratory Therapist - COPD Educator at Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Performs administrative and technical procedures related to Respiratory Therapy in a designated section by performing duties such as coordinating daily work activities of section, setting up and overseeing quality control of test equipment and administering diagnostic tests.
  • Perform technical and clinical diagnostic procedures and tests to assist with the assessment of patient diagnosis and treatment of respiratory conditions.
  • Provide Asthma and COPD education and deliver the Rehabilitation program.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of asthma and COPD education programs to improve the health and quality of life of patients with lung disease.
  • Develop and collect teaching material and maintains clinic database.
  • Consult, confer and collaborate with other health care providers to share information for ongoing improvement of respiratory services.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam. 
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
  • Two (2) years recent, related experience training and practice in clinical respiratory therapy, staff education/training, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Eligible for certification in asthma management and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of organization policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of respiratory theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, facilitate and teach.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote asthma education and evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, patients and their families, and outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Certified CPR Level-C.
  • Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
