We have an exciting opportunity for a Physiotherapist to join the Vancouver Pediatric Team (VPT) working out of the Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre in Vancouver, BC

The VPT is looking for a motivated and fun loving PT to join our dynamic, multidisciplinary team of OTs, PTs, RAs and nurses. VPT offers services to school aged children and youth who live in Vancouver and attend Vancouver Public schools.  Our goal is to use evidence based practice to work with families and school teams to support children in living healthy and active lives to the best of their abilities. The physiotherapists on our team provide services in clients’ homes and school environments and work collaboratively with other members of the clients’ health care teams. School aged physiotherapists provide a multitude of supports for children and youth which can include, but are not limited to, education of school support workers, equipment prescription and set up, modified PE or activity programs, post-surgical support, transition support - all with the aim of ensuring inclusion and improving daily quality of life and physical well being of the students we work with.

As a Physiotherapist you will:

  • Provide physiotherapy services to specific children (0 –19 years old) with physical, neurological and developmental challenges and to those who require episodic or palliative care.
  • Coordinate the care plan for children with complex health needs and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, educational agencies and other health care professionals/providers/community agencies to achieve excellence in health services and education.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration with the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC).
  • Two (2) years’ recent related clinical experience with the designated client population including care management experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge in the assessment of neurological, physical and developmental problems and an understanding of available equipment and its appropriate use including wheelchairs, standing frames, walkers and orthotics.
  • Broad knowledge of CPTBC standards of practice and guidelines for physiotherapy
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and provide interventions for children living with complex health issues
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and provide interventions for children living with complex heath issues
  • General of knowledge Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths -based
    care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working within a family directed service philosophy.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a risk management approach and ethical decision-making principles to complex family and complex health situations.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with care management theory, diversity and multicultural health care
    practice in working with children, families, care providers, professionals, special interest groups and the public.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of adult learning and group dynamics.
  • Working knowledge of facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution techniques and demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of standardized pediatric assessments as well as informal assessments.
  • Demonstrated teaching/training skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver in-service education sessions to lay and professional groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to prescribe and/or recommend a variety of rehabilitation equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and maintain a variety of charts, records and reports related to work and to perform all duties with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, organize and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work independently and to use a cooperative approach to program delivery.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR Techniques.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to deal with others tactfully, effectively and respectfully
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
