The Division of Cardiology invites applications from outstanding cardiologists with advanced training in Echocardiography (level III) and advanced Heart Failure wishing to pursue a research
focused career. This position is primarily based at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) in conjunction with a potential clinical role at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH), both of which are
University of British Columbia (UBC)-affiliated teaching hospitals. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue an academically focused career based on a strong publication and
research track record, signaling their ability to obtain peer reviewed grant funding within the early phase of their career.
The applicant must have a specific interest and training in both Heart Failure and Echo. They must have a minimum of 1 year of accredited training in echocardiography and have demonstrated excellence in the care of patients with advanced heart failure with a minimum 1 year of dedicated training in this area. The position will include inpatient and outpatient management of patients with heart failure with a specific academic focus in Heart Failure including a half time commitment to Heart Failure research. The role encompasses all aspects of echocardiography including diagnostic TTE, TEE, stress echo and structural/interventional echocardiography and academic focus in this area.
Applicants must be certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RSPSC) and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of British Columbia. Those applicants with AFC certification in Echocardiography and with AFC certification in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation from the RCPSC or similar from the ABIM will receive particular consideration. Candidates should possess exceptional communication and teaching skills.

This role will also be clinical faculty position within the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). As part of the UBC Division of Cardiology’s academic focus, the successful candidate is expected to substantially support the development and growth of the UBC Cardiology research and education programs. The Division of Cardiology will support an appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher, however clinical faculty appointments at UBC are assigned at a rank determined by the Academic Appointments, Reappointments, Promotions and Tenure Committee (AARPT) of the UBC Department of Medicine.
