Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Senior Cloud Administrator to join the Data & Analytics Team. Apply today to join our team!  

Reporting to the senior leadership within Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Data and Analytics, the Senior Cloud System Administrator acts as a project leader to support the organization’s various Cloud System administration initiatives to streamline, administer and automate Azure cloud environments, including Virtual Machines, Storage Accounts, Virtual Networks, and other Azure services with a focus on Databricks. Develops and implements DevOps and CI/CD release practices and applies expertise and critical thinking to project lead automation and release process improvement. The Senior Administrator monitors the health and performance of cloud resources using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and other tools, and implements solutions to optimize performance and resource use. Implements and maintains scalable, efficient, data tools and solutions for large scale, complex data environments.

 

The Senior Cloud System Administrator works with, leads and advises various data and application development teams to implement processes and standards and participate in code reviews and debriefs to monitor adoption.

 

As a Senior Cloud System Administrator, Data & Analytics with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Act as a Project Leader to lead and advise in the development of formalized solution methodologies, including building and maintaining repository for deliverables, methodologies, and system documents, and oversee the writing and presenting of briefing notes that add further insight and thought in the designated systems area.
  • Lead and/or advise on the development of principles that guide technology and system decisions for the organization and the development and implementation of policies and standards related to the technical requirements for the overall system design in collaboration with other Data and Analytics teams.
  • Administer, manage, and support Azure cloud environments, including Virtual Machines, Storage Accounts, Virtual Networks, and other Azure services with a focus on Databricks.
  • Develop and implement DevOps and CI/CD release practices. Apply expertise and critical thinking to project lead automation and release process improvement.
  • Monitor the health and performance of cloud resources using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and other tools, and implement solutions to optimize performance and reduce costs.
  • Implement and maintain scalable, efficient, data tools and solutions for large scale, complex data environments.
  • Work with various data and application development teams to implement processes and standards and participate in code reviews and debriefs to monitor adoption.
  • Automate routine tasks and deployments using Azure PowerShell, CLI, ARM templates, Terraform, or other automation tools.
  • May oversee and lead staff as part of project leadership and assesses and address operational resource impacts and/or needs across all related projects and follow up with the Manager as appropriate.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately report unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or equivalent industry experience.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in cloud administration with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure.
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a DevOps engineer, Site Reliability engineer, or a similar role within a data engineering or data development environment.
  • Azure certifications preferred (e.g. Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, DevOps Engineer Expert etc.).

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Strong proficiency in managing Azure services like Virtual Machines, Storage, Networking, Azure Entra ID, and Security.
  • Demonstrated experience with DevOps practices and tools, including Azure DevOps, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and version control.
  • Experience building scalable environments with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as ARM templates, Terraform, or Bicep.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Azure Databricks or other cloud based data warehousing services.
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages e.g. python, with a focus on automating processes including code release.
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines (ETL), with a preference for working within a Databricks environment.
  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment an asset.
  • Working knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Effective leader with demonstrated ability to develop a strong plan with key deliverables and outcomes.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical system requirements.
  • Ability to estimate financial impact of technical system alternatives.
  • Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business problems.
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
  • Demonstrated strong expertise and experience with project management across multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects.
  • Resourceful; well-organized; systematic analysis; strategic thinking; critical thinking; attention to detail; leadership and management skills.
  • Experience working within an Agile environment.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of database design and report design at the intermediate to advanced level as asset.
  • Knowledge of healthcare databases an asset.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
