As a Clinical Dietitian 2 - Transplant with VCH you will:

  • Work within a designated program’s self-directed work team, provide a broad spectrum of dietetic services to clients of the Solid Organ Transplant or Bone Marrow Transplant Programs.
  • Apply extensive knowledge, skill and clinical experience to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nutrition goals and care plans for clients throughout all stages of the transplant process.
  • Utilize advanced clinical techniques such as knowledge of transplant treatment modalities and principles of nutrition support.
  • Participate in the development of dietetic practice guidelines and procedures for the hospital and provincial agencies.
  • Initiate practice-based research projects in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Act as a resource person to other Dietitians and health care professionals regarding questions and issues related to the nutritional management of clients pre or post transplant.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC) and registration with Restricted Activities A, B, and C.
  • Two (2) years’ recent, related clinical experience in a medical/surgical care setting plus a Nutrition Support Certification for Dietitians (CNSD) from the American Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of clinical dietetic theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and Dietitians of Canada.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care plan, and to respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with (both verbally and in writing), and to deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care professionals, clients and their families, and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement nutrition care plans in relation to client/family priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, deal effectively with conflict situations, problem-solve, and to think critically.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system and Internet, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
