Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse OR Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join the Provincial Opioid Treatment Access Line with the Intensive Case Management Team in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Registered Nurse with the Intensive Case Management Team, you will:

  • Provide and coordinate the delivery of nursing care services to clients experiencing problematic substance use.
  • Demonstrate nursing expertise tailored to clients accessing the Provincial Opioid Treatment Access Line, including nursing assessments, referrals, crisis intervention, counselling, and necessary follow-up.
  • Facilitate access and ensure secure connections to local opioid agonist therapy (OAT) prescribers and community resources, addressing care barriers, and promote a timely, responsive, person-centred, and a culturally safe and informed approach.
  • Closely collaborate with clients navigating substance use challenges and care providers, ensuring comprehensive care planning and seamless information flow across Vancouver Coastal Health and community service settings.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of approved addictions or substance use training, or substance use certificate program, and two (2) years' recent related experience working in an addictions environment with individuals with substance use disorders, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions including crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).
  • Knowledge of counselling and group facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to mental health and substance use practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for clients/families/care givers.
  • Ability to educate clients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to use factual information and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
