Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Clerical Support Worker to support the team at Sheway in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

Sheway is a Pregnancy Outreach Program (P.O.P.) located in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. The program provides health and social service supports to pregnant women and women with infants under eighteen months who are dealing with drug and alcohol issues. The focus of the program is to help the women have healthy pregnancies and positive early parenting experiences.

As a Clerical Support Worker you will:

  • Provide support services to pregnant and parenting clients with substance use.
  • Monitor clients, documents and provides verbal reports on observations in accordance with standard procedures or specific direction, facilitates the use of community services and resources and proves information on community services, and liaises and coordinates services with mental health, addictions, and medical professionals.
  • Participate in team meetings and corporate initiatives, engage in on going team planning and quality improvement activities, maintain a safe and clean environment for clients and team, and performs a variety of clerical duties as required.
  • Play a key role in supporting client engagement, systems navigation in a low barrier, indigenous culturally safe context.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12.
  • Office Administration Certificate, Medical Terminology and one (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service and communication skills related to providing low barrier health care services for clients and with external partners.
  • Working knowledge of office procedures.
  • Ability to operate a multi-line switchboard/phone system.
  • Ability to keyboard 5,000 keystrokes per hour.
  • Business writing skills.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Ability to utilize trauma informed, harm reduction and indigenous cultural safety knowledge and principles to inform service delivery for pregnant and parenting women requiring enhanced and low barrier health care access and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to anticipate potential problems/conflicts and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain satisfactory work relationships with clients and staff.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with coworkers, clients and staff from other agencies.
  • Demonstrated skill in using a variety of office equipment and computer software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve software related problems.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
