As an Accessibility Lead, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Communications, Equity and Partnerships with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Be responsible for collaborating across portfolios and providing mentorship to staff and medical staff to advance EDI priorities.
  • Manage projects, propose new initiatives, liaise with other Vancouver Coastal Health programs and will assist with engagement and quality improvement activities as it relates to VCH’s commitment to advance equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Assume the roles of advisor, collaborator and educator.
  • Work with all VCH departments including services and programs, to develop partnerships, adopt new inclusive practices and encourage others.
  • Bring demonstrated experience in equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Draw on skills in change and project management, learning and development, and evaluation.
  • Actively support the alignment of recruitment initiatives with the current and emerging needs of the organization.
  • Help to ensure recruiters and hiring managers increase their awareness of unconscious bias and are well informed and supported to fulfill their hiring mandates.
  • Support the development of baseline metrics and KPIs for accessibility.
  • Measure progress and impact to help drive decisions and bring creativity and strategic thinking to identify new opportunities and approaches to address systemic bias and organizational barriers.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline such as Social Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Health Administration.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in EDI program and project management, as well as change management, organization development, engagement, training and development, and conducting program evaluations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience related to EDI, preferably around accessibility.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Applies comprehensive knowledge, skill and experience in developing and implementing accessibility-focused recruitment, guidelines, tools and training to educate and achieve a high level of diversity and inclusion hiring.
  • Sound knowledge of federal and provincial human rights and employment policy and legislation relevant to accessibility.
  • Strong project management, prioritization and planning skills in the design and delivery of accessibility programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project and program evaluation.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis would be an asset.
  • Superior writing, speaking, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Applies judgment and political expertise to communicate sensitive information to, and collaborate with, a variety of internal and external partners.
  • Uses team building, problem solving and conflict resolution skills to facilitate critical thinking and problem resolution.
  • Fosters creativity, innovation and strategic thinking involving cultural shifts and large-scale change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops and meetings with multi-level and multidisciplinary staff to achieve effective outcomes.
  • Plays a consultative and facilitator role for internal teams on topics such as inclusive leadership, unconscious bias, accessibility, equity and diversity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
