Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Concurrent Disorders Nurse to join the team in North Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Concurrent Disorders Nurse with VCH you will:

  • Provide concurrent nursing care to clients who have moderate to severe substance use issues which may include co-occurring mental health disorders. This care is provided as part of a comprehensive substance use and mental health system of services.
  • Work within the parameters of an interdisciplinary team and as part of a broader integrated system to deliver these services.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two (2) years’ recent, related nursing experience in the related area (e.g. Community mental health, substance use intervention, mental health housing), or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Knowledge of the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice.
  • Knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to substance abuse treatment.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and treatment.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and addictions treatment.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).
  • Knowledge of counseling skills and group facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.
  • Knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing. and deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, patients and their families, and outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to geriatric mental health.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR and NRP techniques.
  • Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for treatment.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
