Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Advanced Practice Occupational Therapist - Seating and Mobility to join the Spine Rehab Outpatient team at G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre in Vancouver, BC.  Apply today to join our team! 

 

As an Occupational Therapist with VCH, you will:

  • Provide occupational therapy services to enable clients to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. 
  • Utilize advanced clinical knowledge and procedures to provide Occupational Therapy services that includes:
    • providing seating and mobility assessment and prescription,
    • pressure and shear management, and
    • spasticity management to spinal cord injury (SCI) clients with increased complexity, comorbidities and functional implications.
  • Conduct advanced assessments utilizing an evidence-based approach.
  • Plan goal directed services, implement services utilizing advanced intervention approaches/procedures, and evaluate the effectiveness of the service.
  • Prepare and maintain records.
  • Develop research proposals.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary research.
  • Demonstrate safe and effective resource utilization and quality management and contributing to the development, review and promotion of occupational therapy services.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of BC (COTBC).
  • Two (2) year’s recent experience in a rehabilitation health care setting including one (1) year seating and positioning experience involving advanced interventions, commercial and complex custom devices and mobility equipment for individuals with complex needs plus additional course work in complex seating and positioning, skin and wound management and spasticity management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of complex and aging adult populations living with Spinal Cord Injury, presentations, indicators, needs, complexities, co-morbidities and contra-indicators
  • Broad knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to wheelchair prescription, modifications and technologies, seating, positioning, pressure prevention assessment and interventions and access technology.
  • Broad knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to upper extremity therapy.
  • Broad knowledge of concepts, current trends and practice related to wheeled mobility, seating, positioning and access technology.
  • Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and clients both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a culturally safe and respectful manner, with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and patients/clients and their circle of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation and teaching.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for intervention.
  • Computer literacy with work processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
