Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Director, Community Strategic Initiatives to join the team. Reporting to the Executive Director, Community Strategic Initiatives, the Director, Community Strategic Initiatives is responsible for providing leadership and subject area knowledge to plan, monitor and evaluate the Community, Seniors and Home Health Services Transformation across the health authority and support client and family -focused seamless care that is integrated across services. The Director will work in collaboration with clinical leadership, identifying and setting strategic direction; ensuring alignment with both provincial and organizational priorities; and guiding the provision of safe, effective, and quality client and family-focused care. The Director will facilitate the planning and implementation (including identifying resource implications), performance monitoring, and evaluating initiatives set out in the strategic direction while collaborating with various leadership groups with the goal of setting a vision, communicating priorities, and facilitating consensus among diverse partners.

The Director is responsible for making relevant decisions that impact clinicians and other interested parties working both within and externally to the Health Authority. They will provide strategic counsel to senior leaders and, in turn, influence the goals, objectives policies, service delivery models, and resource allocation within VCH and the province, while also providing leadership to the network of clinicians and operational leaders across the health authority and province-wide.

As a Director, Community Strategic Initiatives with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Lead a collaborative development process and coordinate the implementation of Health Authority-wide and/or provincial strategic and service delivery plans for the clinical service area based on best practices. This includes researching and developing potential approaches, standards, and work plans; supervising staff; ensuring deliverables are on time/task/budget and aligned with both internal and external priorities; liaising and building relationships; and working with diverse partners, including content area professionals, medical and operational leadership both locally and regionally.
  • Develop and lead innovative quality improvement initiatives that inform the continuous development of evidence-based, best practice clinical services across the Health Authority. Activities include coordinating the design, implementation, management, and monitoring of electronic surveillance tools.
  • Serve as the Data Steward for data and information related to the assigned area for the Health Authority.
  • Continuously improve, standardize, eliminate waste, and add value from the perspective of the client and family, the clinician, and the general public. Leads and/or supports program evaluation and monitoring client outcomes for key initiatives and investments.
  • Develop and monitor an annual budget including monitoring budget performance, planning, and adjusting deliverables to meet projections and annual targets; approving expenditures; and fiscal reporting.
  • Develop regular and ad hoc status reports for internal and external audiences. Proactively identifies areas where progress is not meeting targets and works collaboratively with internal and external partners to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide information and data to support responses from other senior leaders and ensures appropriate interpretation of the information. Coordinates information gathering from both a site and provincial level to be able to formulate responses within a timely manner.
  • Lead the strategic communication planning for the Community, Seniors, and Home Health Services Transformation portfolio to ensure accurate and consistent messaging internal and external to the Health Authority.
  • Acts as a liaison, negotiating and building consensus between provincial and organizational partners.
  • Create and support clinician, medical provider, partner, client, and family working groups as needed. Provides a forum for improved communication.
  • Recruit, hire, implement performance management, discipline, and terminate staff within the portfolio as is required to meet portfolio and organization objectives. Leads the development of educational plans, in-service training, and mentorship to support individual employee professional development and provides talent management and succession planning.
  • In alignment with VCH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations, and implementing required corrective actions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A Master’s degree and demonstrated achievement of competence and mastery as a result of extensive experience and/or study in a health-related field or Business Administration.
  • Seven to ten years of management experience, including program leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment that includes community and seniors’ care.

  • Ability to communicate through a variety of mediums.

  • Demonstrated change management implementation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a matrix management structure.
  • Ability to be innovative in finding solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to define own continuing education needs and maintain competency through reading literature, management workshops, seminars, and available educational offerings.
  • Flexibility with respect to how, where, and when work is performed. The position entails unpredictable work hours and competing workload demands.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • A valid BC Driver’s license.
